A DWP file may also be a preset used by DirectWave, a software sampler plugin developed by Image-Line for the FL Studio digital audio workstation ( DAW ). It stores settings for an instrument in the DirectWave Preset (DWP) format, including references to the sample files it uses, as well as configuration details like key mapping, effects, and modulation. DWP preset files help users, typically musicians and producers, save and reuse their custom instrument setups in DirectWave.

You can manipulate audio samples across different pitches and velocities with DirectWave, turning them into playable virtual instruments. Instead of configuring the sampler from scratch each time, you can load a DWP file to quickly recall an instrument with all its associated samples and parameters.
NOTE: DWP files do not contain the audio samples themselves; they reference separate audio files, which must be present for the preset to work correctly.
How to open a DWP file
You can open DWP files with the Image-Line DirectWave plugin inside FL Studio in Windows and macOS. To open a DWP file with DirectWave, click the folder icon in the upper corner of the interface and choose the DWP file you wish to open.
DirectWave Player, a limited version of the plugin, can also open DWP files. It is included with all editions of FL Studio.
