What is an RSD file?

An RSD file is a data file created for Rosetta Stone, an interactive language teaching program. It contains language data referenced by Rosetta Stone and is not meant to be manually opened. RSD files are located in the "data" and "speech" folders within the Rosetta Stone .ISO file on the Language Disc.

RealSQLDatabase File

An RSD file may also be a database file format used by REALbasic, a software development application that uses the BASIC programming language. RSD files store data in a structured format that can be accessed via SQL commands.

RealSQLDatabase files may be loaded within a REALbasic program using a command such as: myDB.databaseFile = GetFolderItem("mydb.rsd") .

In 2013, REALbasic became Xojo. The legacy RSD file extension may still be used by some Xojo developers on SQLite files instead of .SQLITE .

RadSound Audio File

An RSD file may also be an audio file used by a Radical Entertainment video game, such as The Simpsons: Hit & Run and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. It contains music, dialogue, sound effects, or other audio played in the game.

Radical Entertainment was a Canadian video game development company that developed several popular games, including some games in the Crash Bandicoot series. Many of Radical Entertainment's games included audio files saved in the company's proprietary RSD file format.

NOTE: The game MadWorld, published by RedSpark, also uses RSD audio files. However, RedSpark's RSD files are saved in a different format than Radical Entertainment's RSD files.

You can open an RSD file with vgmstream (multiplatform), to play the audio the file contains. You can also open RSD files with Foobar2000 (Windows) and Nullsoft Winamp (Windows), after installing the vgmstream plug-in.

With the vgmstream plug-in installed, you can use Foobar2000 (Windows) to convert RSD files to .WAV and other common audio formats. You can also use Lucas' RSD Converter (Windows) to convert RSD files to other formats.

An RSD file may also be a game data file used by Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. It contains data used to load a level. For example, RSD files contain data used to load a level's geometry, layers, and objects.

In 2014, Retro Studios and Monster Games released Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, a platforming game for the Wii U. The game includes many types of game data files, including RSD files. These files are saved in proprietary formats, and they are not meant to be opened or edited by players.

RSD files are not meant to be opened.
