Superbase Database

An SBF file may also be a database created by Superbase, a program used to create and manage databases. It contains data stored in records, which can consist of 1 to 999 fields. SBF files are saved in a binary format.

In 1983, Precision Software released the original version of Superbase for the Commodore 64 and 128. Later, the company also made Superbase available for the Amiga, Atari ST, and Windows. Various other publishers have released subsequent versions of Superbase, including 2003's Superbase Classic and 2016's Superbase NG.

Databases created by Superbase are saved as SBF files. Users and applications created in Superbase can perform various functions on these databases, such as searching them for information, updating them, and creating reports using their data.

You can open an SBF file with various versions of Superbase (Windows), such as Superbase Classic and Superbase NG. Note that if your SBF file was created by an old version of Superbase, you may have to convert the file to Superbase's current database format before you can open it.

SmartBroker Data

An SBF file may also be a data file used by SmartBroker, a now-discontinued program for tracking and analyzing stock market activity. It stores information about a user's stock portfolio and market research, such as stock lists, price trends, financial news summaries, watchlists, and performance reports. SBF files allow users to save stock information, load it later, and then view historical trends or compare past and present stock performance.

Individual investors and financial analysts who rely on SmartBroker for desktop-based stock tracking are the main users of SBF files. For example, an investor may track a group of stocks and then save that data as an SBF file for future analysis.

Septentrio Binary File

An SBF file may also be a GPS data file created by Septentrio GNSS receivers, which are electronic devices that receive and process signals from global navigation satellite system (GNSS) satellites. It contains a data log about the GPS position, time, and velocity of a device fitted with a GNSS receiver. SBF files are saved in binary format to reduce file size.

Septentrio GNSS receivers are used in a large variety of industries, which include geographic information systems, scientific and unmanned aerial vehicles, marine, construction, agriculture, and survey and mapping. SBF files are used to store the data logs for devices used in these industries.

SBF files may be opened by a variety of tools from the Septentrio RxTools suite, which include "SBF Analyzer" and "SBF Converter". You can convert SBF files using the "SBF Converter" to several formats, such as ASCII, KML, GPX, and RINEX. The tools can be found in the rools\​binary\​win32 subdirectory in the installation path.
