What is an SQZ file? An SQZ file is a project file created by Sorenson Squeeze, a program used to compress and convert videos to different file formats. It is an XML file that contains video encoding settings and a record of when and how a video was converted. SQZ files may also include settings for converting video using a cloud-based Squeeze Server. The files store only references to imported video files; they do not include actual video data.

An SQZ file may also be a compressed , encrypted file created by digitalSQZ Manager, a confidential file management service. It contains a file, such as a .DOCX , .XLSX , .MP4 , or .PNG file, that digitalSQZ has compressed and encrypted. SQZ files can be opened only through digitalSQZ.

An SQZ file may also be a backup project created by The Master Genealogist, a Windows program used to document the genealogy of people. It contains a Zip -compressed backup of a project, which includes database, documentation, and configuration files.

SQZ files are meant to be opened by The Master Genealogist. But you can also manually open SQZ files with a Zip decompression program. To do this, rename the ".sqz" extension to ".zip" then extract the ZIP file to view its contents.
NOTE: The Master Genealogist was discontinued in 2014.
