Overview

What is a CCI file? A CCI file is a disk image of a video game for the original Xbox console. It contains a copy of an original Xbox game, compressed to remove padding and other unnecessary data. Gamers create CCI files using Repackinator, an Xbox .ISO management tool.

More Information Team Resurgent developed Repackinator to allow Xbox gamers to manage Xbox game dumps saved as ISO disc images. As part of developing Repackinator, Team Resurgent (in partnership with Team Cerbios) created the CCI, or Cerbios Compressed ISO, format. Gamers can use Repackinator to compress ISO copies of their games into CCI files. This reduces the files' size and allows gamers to store disc images more efficiently. CCI compression is based on LZ4 compression.

A CCI file may also be a game ROM used to play a Nintendo 3DS game in a 3DS emulator . It contains the game's executable file and may store other game data, such as the game's manual and updates. CCI files are similar to .3DS files in the Citra Cartridge Image (CCI) format. Gamers who want to play Nintendo 3DS games on their computer or mobile device can do so with Lime3DS, an emulator that replaced Citra.

More Information

Game files packaged for Lime3DS are saved in many different formats, including the 3DS, .CXI , .CIA , and CCI formats. Like 3DS files, CCI files typically contain the entirety of a game cartridge's contents, "dumped" from the cartridge to a single file.

For this reason, each CCI file contains multiple CXI files, only one of which is actually necessary to launch a game. The others contain non-essential game data.

How to open a CCI file

You can open a CCI file with Lime3DS (multiplatform). To do so, select Add New Game Directory . Then navigate to and select the folder that contains your CCI file.
