A GCD file may also be a disc image of a compact disc ( CD ), created by the now-discontinued Prassi disc imaging software, including CD Right! and CD Rep. It stores an exact duplicate of the data from the original CD, preserving its structure and content. Prassi software users typically create GCD files to store disc contents for backup purposes or to transfer CD data to other devices without physical media.

Prassi software was popular in the early 2000s and designed to manage CD and DVD burning, with GCD files storing the contents of the discs. While they were more common in the 2000s, the files are mainly obscure today, as modern CD imaging tools often use more standard formats like .ISO .
How to open a GCD file
You can open GCD files with various disc-imaging tools, such as Smart Projects IsoBuster and EZB Systems UltraISO in Windows. Prassi CD Right! and CD Rep can also open GCD files, but the software is no longer developed.
