XMLwriter Project

An XWP file may also be a project created by the now-discontinued Wattle Software XMLwriter, a program for creating, editing, and validating .XML documents. It stores information about a project, including the structure of the XML data, the XSLT applied to the document, and any specific settings applied during the editing process.

XMLwriter provided various tools for defining the layout and schema of XML documents. The purpose of an XWP project was to store and manage the structure, settings, and configurations associated with XML files and their transformations. Projects typically included the XML source files, schemas , stylesheets, and other related resources.

You can open XWP files with Wattle Software XMLwriter in Windows. However, the software is no longer developed.

Since XWP files save text information in the XML standard, you can also open them with a text or XML editor. Although, opening XWP files with a text or XML editor will not appear the same as if it was opened in XMLwriter.

Crosstalk Session File

An XWP file may also be a session log created by Intel Crosstalk Communicator, a discontinued communication program used on early DOS and Windows systems. It stores a plain text record of commands, events, and data exchanged during a modem or serial communication session.

Crosstalk Communications originally developed Crosstalk, and Digital Communications Associates (DCA) later maintained it, expanding the software's capabilities for business and telecommunications use. Intel later distributed Intel Crosstalk Communicator, which continued to support the same session logging features, including the creation and use of XWP files.

Crosstalk used XWP files to track activity during terminal connections, automated scripts, or file transfers. The software was widely used in the 1980s and 1990s by businesses and technical users who relied on dial-up modems for remote access, telecommunications, or the management of networked devices. Users could review these log files to troubleshoot connection issues, verify data transfers, or maintain records of modem activity.

You can open XWP files with Intel Crosstalk Communicator. However, the program is no longer actively developed.

Since the XWP files store plain text, you can open them with any text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit . However, opening the files with a text editor will not appear the same as opening them with Crosstalk Communicator.
