Supercell Texture

An SC file contains one or more 2D images used in a Supercell video game, or it contains metadata related to those images. The images are used to skin 2D game elements. SC files are compressed, and they may be compressed using different types of compression .

Supercell is a Finnish mobile game development company that is most well known for producing the game Clash of Clans. All of Supercells' games include textures packaged within SC files.

These files' names always end with _tex.sc . For example, a file that contains a game's user interface elements may be named ui_tex.sc .

SC files whose names do not include _tex are metadata files that a game uses to load textures correctly.

SC files are not meant to be opened. Some Supercell game modders have created tools that allow them to extract the textures that SC files contain. However, these tools are often unreliable.

Scala Worksheet

An SC file may also be a worksheet created using the Scala (Scalable language) programming language. It contains expressions that are automatically evaluated when the file is saved using the Scala integrated development environment ( IDE ). SC files are meant to be opened in the Scala IDE or another source code editor.

Scala is a Java-like programming language that can call Java methods, inherit from Java classes, implement Java interfaces, and create Java objects. The language's source code can be compiled to Java byte code that can run on a Java virtual machine. Scala also supports optional parameters, raw strings, named parameters, and operator overloading.

Alongside the release of version 3 of the Scala IDE, Scala introduced the SC, or Scala worksheet, file format. Scala worksheets are evaluated on save and show the result of each expression in a column to the right of the worksheet. This allows developers to quickly test the code they've included in a worksheet.

SC files are meant to be opened in the Scala IDE (cross-platform) with the Scala worksheet plug-in installed or another IDE or source code editor that recognizes the Scala programming language. Some other IDEs, such as Jetbrains IntelliJ IDEA (Windows), can also automatically evaluate the expressions an SC file contains.

Streak Project

An SC file may also be a development project created by Streak, a modified version of MIT Scratch . It contains an animation, game, or other simple program written in the Scratch programming language. SC files can be opened only with Streak; they cannot be opened with the default version of Scratch.

Scratch is a block-based development environment that novice programmers use to learn how to code. Developer Billy Graydon created Streak as an extension of Scratch 1.4. Streak includes custom Scratch programming blocks and other non-default features.

While Scratch 1.4 saves users' development projects as .SB files, Streak saves users' projects as SC files. This custom extension denotes that the project was created by Streak, and not Scratch.

You can open an SC file with Streak (Windows). However, because Streak is discontinued, you may have trouble installing and using it. If you cannot install Streak, you will not be able to open your SC file.
