A P3D file may also be a 3D model used in a Radical Entertainment video game, such as The Simpsons: Hit & Run, The Simpsons: Road Rage, and Crash Tag Team Racing. It is used to show a character or object in the game.

Pure3D is a game engine Radical Entertainment used to develop several popular video games. The 3D models Pure3D uses are saved as P3D files. P3D files include the meshes, textures, skeletons, and collision and physics objects that comprise a Pure3D model.

P3D files are sometimes stored in .RCF files, which are Radical Entertainment game data archives. Enthusiastic players, especially those interested in modding the game The Simpsons: Hit & Run, have created tools that allow them to extract P3D files from RCF files and other game data locations. Players have also created tools that allow them to open, view, and edit P3D files.

You can open a P3D file in Lucas' Pure 3D Editor (Windows) or in Blender (cross-platform) using the Pure3D Editor add-on. You can also use the Pure3D .NET library to load Pure3D files.

Paint 3D Project (Legacy)

A P3D file may also be a project created by the discontinued version of KAUTARUMA Paint 3D Project Manager, a drawing and painting application. It stores a saved artwork project rather than a finished image, preserving the state of the canvas so users can continue editing their work later. P3D files include information such as drawing layers, colors, brush strokes, and canvas settings used in the project.

The P3D format is proprietary to KAUTARUMA Paint 3D, the older version of the software, which was last released in 2023. The new version of the software replaced P3D files with .P3DPJ files.

Instead of flattening the artwork into a single image, the P3D file preserves the editable structure, allowing users to make changes, undo actions, or adjust parts of the drawing without losing detail.
