What is an FCD file?

An FCD file is a disk image created by H+H Software Virtual CD, a software application used to emulate and manage CD-ROMs on a computer. It contains an uncompressed copy of a CD-ROM, including all files, folders, and the disc's structure. Versions 1 through 3 of Virtual CD used FCD files to store and mount virtual copies of physical CDs without requiring the original disc, but later versions use .VCD files.

First Choice Database

An FCD file may also be a database created by SoftKey PFS:First Choice, a discontinued productivity software suite. It contains data in the First Choice Database (FCD) format, which includes tables, records, and other data entries users have entered.

First Choice offered a range of office tools for personal computers in the 1990s, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. SoftKey International eventually discontinued the software in the late 1990s, and the FCD format has become obscure.

FastCAD DOS Drawing

An FCD file may also be a 2D vector drawing created by Evolution Computing FastCAD for DOS (now FastCAD), a computer-aided design ( CAD ) program used to produce technical drawings, architectural plans, and layouts. It stores drawing objects such as lines, arcs, shapes, and text that represent the design in a precise, scalable format. FCD files were commonly used by designers and engineers who worked with DOS-based systems to create detailed and accurate 2D plans.

FastCAD for DOS enabled users to edit, manipulate, and organize drawing elements, supporting tasks such as layering, dimensioning, and annotation. The software was particularly useful for architects, engineers, and technical illustrators who needed a lightweight CAD solution on early personal computers. FCD files served as the primary format for saving projects, enabling users to reopen and modify drawings as required.

NOTE: FastCAD for DOS eventually became "FastCAD," and later versions of FastCAD eventually saved drawings as .FCW files instead of FCD files.

You can open FCD files with Evolution Computing FastCAD in Windows (older versions of FastCAD for DOS also support FCD files). IMSI TurboCAD , a third-party app, can also open FCD files.
