What is a DBK file? A DBK file is a mobile phone backup file created by Sony Ericsson PC Suite, a program used to manage Sony Ericsson mobile phones. It contains multiple Zip-compression files that store various phone information such as the names and phone numbers of contacts. DBK files are used to back up phone information in the event that the phone is lost or broken.

A DBK file may also be a backup of a database ( .DBF or .DB2 file) automatically created by dBASE database-managing software when a user modifies the structure of a database. Users can restore the database stored in a DBK file through dBASE if it becomes corrupted by opening it the same way as a DBF or DB2 database file.

dBASE is a Windows program that provides database-related capabilities, including the ability to manage databases, build programs, and compile them. As you modify the structure of a DBF or DB2 file, dBASE provides the DBK file type for preserving a backup of the database.
For example, when you issue the MODIFY STRUCTURE command, dBASE automatically creates a backup of the original table with the .dbk file extension, then creates a new table with the .dbf file extension to store the modified table structure. After you finish adjusting the structure, dBASE moves the content from the DBK backup file to the new DBF database file.
NOTE: dBASE stands for "dataBased Intelligence."
