A GBX file may also be a design of a Gerber Printed Circuit Board ( PCB ) used by various computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) applications for creating circuit boards. It contains layout information that defines the copper traces, solder masks, drilling instructions, and other details necessary for fabricating a PCB.

The Gerber format, which Ucamco develops, is an industry-standard for PCB production, ensuring that manufacturers can interpret and reproduce designs accurately. PCB design files use the .gbx and .gbr ( .GBR ) extensions, but GBR files are more common.
Engineers and manufacturers generate GBX and GBR files with PCB design software to inspect, modify, and verify PCB designs before production. They then transfer them to CAM software, which reads them to guide the manufacturing process.
How to open a GBX file
You can open GBX files with various applications, including PentaLogix ViewMate (Windows), Software Companions GerbView (Windows), and KiCad (multiplatform). For example, to open a GBX file with GerbView, select Add Layer from the Home tab.
