A PE4 file may also be a thumbnail cache or accompanying metadata file created by version 4 of Ulead PhotoImpact. PhotoImpact automatically creates a pair of PE4 files to store thumbnails of a user's images and information about those images. This allows PhotoImpact to efficiently display organized thumbnail galleries.
