Typhoon Wave Audio File

A C01 file may also be an audio file created by Typhoon, a third-party operating system ( OS ) used by the Yamaha TX16W sampler. It contains audio samples in binary format for creating music or sound effects. While obscure now, many musicians, sound designers, and audio professionals who worked with the TX16W sampler and Typhoon OS often encountered C01 files.

More Information

The Yamaha TX16W digital sampler is a rack-mounted sampler released in 1988. Yamaha originally shipped the TX16W with its factory OS, but many users found it limiting in terms of speed, workflow, and features. In response, an independent development team, led by Magnus Lidström, created Typhoon, a replacement OS that significantly improved the sampler’s usability.

Because of the numerous enhancements Typhoon provided, it became the preferred OS for many TX16W users, extending the sampler’s lifespan and making it more competitive with contemporary hardware. C01 files are part of a collection of Typhoon-supported file formats that allow users to load, manage, and manipulate audio samples within the Yamaha TX16W environment.

How to open a C01 file

You can use open C01 files with SOX , an open-source digital audio editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux. WinVortex, TX16WConverter, and SndConv also support C01 files but they are discontinued.

How to convert a C01 file

SOX can convert C01 files to various file types, including the following formats:
