A DRM file may also be a project created by Dream, a modified version of the MIT Scratch application development program. It stores project information, which includes code blocks that manipulate objects and when sounds are played. DRM files also contain imported media such as sprites, audio, and images.

DRM file open in Dream 1
Scratch was developed by the Media Lab at MIT (the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and publicly launched in 2007. Students between 8 and 16 years old are the primary users of the program and often create stories, animations, and games. Dream is a modified version of Scratch, similar to the Branch program, that includes features added by Scratch users.
The DRM file is the main file associated with Dream and is a variation of the .SB project file created by Scratch. Branch creates .SB.BRANCH files to store projects.
NOTE: To create a DRM file with Dream, select File → Save or Save As... .
How to open a DRM file

A DRM file may also be a drum pattern created by Drumsite, a drumset simulator. It contains plain text data that Drumsite uses to play the drum part(s) of a song. DRM files are often packaged within .ZIP archives, to make them easier to share.

DRM file open in Apple TextEdit
Drumsite is a drum programming application that allows musicians to program and play a song's drum parts. For example, a guitarist might use Drumsite to practice alongside a song's drum parts or play a song's drum parts at a solo show.
To program a song's drum parts, musicians add blocks that represent notes to a grid that represents different percussion instruments and a song's measures. Each instrument appears in its own row; the song's measures appear as the grid's columns. Notes are placed in an instrument's row and appear in an instrument-specific color, to help musicians differentiate between instruments. These grids of notes are known as drum patterns.
Drum patterns are saved as DRM files. While these files appear as grids in Drumsite, they are actually plain text files that can be opened in any text editor. When a musician loads a DRM file in Drumsite, the program reads the file's text and displays the instruments, measures, and notes the text describes.
NOTE: Many sample DRM files are available from Drumsite's website. These DRM files are packaged within ZIP archives.
How to open a DRM file
You can open a DRM file in Drumsite (Windows). To do so, select File → Open... from Drumsite's menu and then navigate to and open your DRM file.
If necessary, you can also open a DRM file in any text editor to view the plain text data it contains. For example, you can open a DRM file in Microsoft Notepad (Windows), Apple TextEdit (Mac), or GitHub Atom (cross-platform).
