A NOT file may also be a note file created by MakeMusic Finale, a professional scorewriter. It contains MIDI information recorded in Finale's Transcription window. Current versions of Finale do not create or use NOT files.

More Information

Prior to Finale 2014, the program included a Transcription Mode that allowed composers to record live keyboard performances. These performances appeared as graphics within the Transcription Mode window.

Optionally, composers could save a recorded performance as a NOT file. This allowed them to load the performance in Transcription Mode at a later time if needed.

How to open a NOT file

In Finale 2012 and earlier versions, you can open NOT files with the HyperScribe tool's Transcription Mode. To do so:
