Overview
What is an AML file? System file written in the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Machine Language (AML), a low-level language used for configuring hardware properties; often used to boot Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware ("Hackintosh" systems), such as P55 motherboards; also used for enabling greater hardware compatibility and improving system performance.
More Information An AML file contains a DSDT (Differentiated System Description Table), which stores instructions that notify the OS about certain hardware settings. For Mac OS X systems, the AML file should be placed in the root directory to be recognized. Several premade AML files for Mac OS X are available from tonymacx86. These AML files can be edited with customizations using DSDTSE, which is developed by the EVOSX86 team. AML files are not edited directly, but are first decompiled into ".dsl" files, edited, and then compiled back into ".aml" files. NOTE: AML files contain instructions at the ACPI level, which is between the BIOS and the operating system.

An AML file may also be an Automation Markup Language (AutomationML or AML) data file. It is based on the .XML format and used to store and exchange plant engineering information. AML files are used in a variety of modern engineering tool disciplines, such as mechanical plant engineering, robot control, and programmable logic controllers.
More Information
The AutomationML format describes plant engineering components as objects with their different aspects. Objects may include an entire manufacturing cell with a lot of descriptive information or simplistic information about a screw or robot arm. Each object typically includes information about the topology, geometry, kinematics, and logic of the object.
NOTE: AML files can be created, opened, and edited by AutomationML Editor.

File used by Gem, a Ruby -associated program that creates organized .HTML output files; contains simple, organized XHTML markup language in order to create static HTML pages.
More Information
