Sega Mega Drive ROM

An SMD file may also be a game ROM used by Sega Genesis and Mega Drive emulators. It contains a copy of the game data stored on a Sega Mega Drive game cartridge. SMD files allow gamers to play Mega Drive games on their PCs, using emulators such as Kega Fusion.

Outside North America, the Sega Genesis was known as the Sega Mega Drive. Released in 1988, the Mega Drive was one of Sega's most popular video game consoles. Notably, the Mega Drive was the first Sega console to feature a game starring Sonic the Hedgehog.

Gamers who want to play classic Mega Drive games on their PCs can do so by downloading a Genesis emulator and using it to load a Mega Drive game ROM, which is a copy of a Mega Drive game.
