SPK files are saved in the .TAR format. Therefore, you can also open them with any TAR archive extractor.

Bright Spark Document

File created by Bright Spark, an educational application used to teach electronics principles; contains one or more electronic designs as well as written text that teaches the reader about the design; saves the information needed to present the lesson in the software.

Users can interact with diagrams in the software. For example, a user may click a switch that connects a circuit and turns on a lightbulb. The software animates the circuit's new current flow and shows the newly connected circuit.

NOTE: Users can navigate through a list of designs in SPK files using the "Go to next topic" and "Go to previous topic" buttons in the application. Some sample SPK files are included with the software installation.

Artspeak Source File

Source file written in Artspeak, a computer language used to create a graphical output; contains simple text-based statements that are referenced to draw shapes, lines, patterns, etc.

Artspeak was originally developed in 1970 by Jacob Schwartz. The language only ran on the CDC 6600, which was a supercomputer created by Seymour Cray. It was used to produce a graphical design on a sheet of paper. The language eventually faded away but was brought back in 2012 by Ron Schnell. It can now be used to produce a .PNG graphic instead of a sheet of paper.

NOTE: The SPK file can be created and loaded to display the graphical output using the Artspeak Interpreter web program.

DroidScript Project

An SPK file may also be a project created by DroidScript, an Android and Chromebook IDE for building Android apps with JavaScript . It stores information about a DroidScript-developed app, including JavaScript programming language and project settings.

DroidScript is a simple IDE for Android and Chromebook users to develop apps quickly. You can build .APK files to distribute them on the Google Play Store, or you can create HTML5 apps.

When you save the app you are developing with DroidScript, the IDE creates an SPK file to store the contents. You can then close the project and re-open it later to edit it further. You can also share SPK files to other Android devices, then import them in DroidScript to share projects.

You can open an SPK file with DroidScript on Android devices and Chromebooks. If you do not have access to DroidScript, you can view an SPK file's contents by renaming it to use the .ZIP extension and opening it as you would any ZIP file.
