More Information The GenBank format was developed by the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). It is widely used by public databases and is considered by many to be the standard DNA and protein sequence file format. NOTE: GenBank sequence files also use the .GB file extension and more commonly, the .GBK extension.
