Movable.sed is an encrypted system file used by the Nintendo 3DS. It is a device-specific key that allows the 3DS to access system and game data. Movable.sed is transferred between devices as part of 3DS System Transfers. Additionally, an exploit in the file allows gamers to load custom applications onto their 3DSes.

The data access key movable.sed contains is related to your device's Friend Code. Thus, enthusiastic 3DS homebrew developers have been able to crack the key's encryption. Using this exploit, homebrew gamers can install custom 3DS firmware, such as boot9strap, and then use that firmware to install other custom applications.
