Overview

What is an APM file? An APM file is a vector image file saved in the Aldus Placeable Metafile format. It contains a list of commands that, when executed by an image viewer or placement program, draw an image. APM files are similar to .WMF files, which use the same format as APM files but a different file header .

More Information WMF files use an 18-byte header that contains metadata about the file. APM files instead use a 22-byte header. Because APM files use a non-standard header, Windows API metafile functions, such as GetMetaFile() , CopyMetaFile() , and PlayMetaFile , cannot read the files correctly. To use APM files with these functions, developers must first strip the files' headers using the program wmapmf.exe .
