Overview
What is a DTA file? A DTA file is a database file used by IWIS Chain Engineering, an automobile drive chain calculation program. It contains data, which may include the engine torque, chain load, and friction supported by the drive chain. DTA files are used for calculating the required drive capacity to determine the appropriate drive chain for an automobile.
More Information The two most common DTA files are IS.dta , which is the system database, and IW.dta , which is the chain database. You can open Chain Engineering DTA files with IWIS Chain Engineering, which is only available for Windows. You most likely will only encounter a Chain Engineering DTA file if you have the Chain Engineering program installed on your computer. If you do not have the program installed on your computer and do not specialize in industrial chain drives, your DTA file most likely stores different information. NOTE: IWIS is a company that specializes in engineering automotive and industrial application chain drive systems.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 WAD Resource File
| Developer | Sonic Team Jr. |

A DTA file may also be a game data archive used by the Sonic Robo Blast 2 (SRB2) video game. It may contain sprites (graphics) for playable characters or .OGG and .MIDI files for all of the music played in the game.
More Information
DTA files are the same as .WAD files used by Doom and Doom II, but they use the .dta file extension instead of the .wad file extension. You will most likely only encounter DTA files if you are navigating the game installation directory. Therefore, most SRB2 gamers will not see the DTA file.
Typically, the only people that encounter DTA files are users looking to modify the appearance of playable characters and the music in the game. However, beware that if you modify DTA files by altering their contents or adding incorrect resources, you may cause the game to crash upon startup.
Common DTA Filenames
music.dta - Contains OGG and MIDI files for all of the music played in the game.
player.dta - Contains sprites (graphics) for playable characters in the game.

A DTA file may also be a data file used by StataCorp Stata, a statistical analysis program. It contains a dataset that can be imported into Stata for analysis. For example, a DTA file might contain a dataset being used as part of a research project.
More Information
Students and researchers use Stata to view, manipulate, visualize, and report on numerical data. For example, a researcher might use Stata to perform a regression analysis on a dataset, to estimate whether there is a relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables.
Users can import and store Stata datasets in many formats, including Stata's proprietary DTA format. DTA files store datasets as binary data and can be opened only in Stata. Notably, different versions of Stata produce differently-formatted DTA files. However, the most recent version of Stata can open all DTA files.
How to open a DTA file
You can open a DTA file with StatCorp Stata (multiplatform). To do so, select File → Open... from Stata's menu bar. Then, navigate to and open your DTA file. The dataset your file contains will appear in Stata.
