OpenFlight Scene Description File

3D scene description file created in the OpenFlight format; saves data in a hierarchical structure and and describes how to render a 3D scene for a real-time image generator; often used for military, urban city, and flight simulation visualizations.

The OpenFlight format is developed and maintained by Presagis (formerly MultiGen-Paradigm). It has been widely adopted as the standard format in the 3D visual simulation community. Applications such as 3ds Max and Blender provide native support for the file type.

Flight Simulator Saved Flight

Flight saved by Microsoft Flight Simulator, a realistic Flight Simulation game; may be a flight included with the program or a flight saved in progress, which can be loaded and continued at a later time.

NOTE: The file "Fltsim.flt" located in Flights\Other\Fltsim.flt must be present in order for the program to open. If the file is removed, the Flight Simulator program may need to be reinstalled.

Graphics Filter

An FLT file may also be a graphics filter used to apply color correction, artistic effects, image distortions or other modifications to an image. Several different types of programs use FLT files, which may not be compatible across programs.

For example, Microsoft Office programs use FLT files that are stored in the following directory (in Windows):

C:/​Program Files/​Common Files/​Microsoft Shared/​GRPHFLT

Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite are other examples of programs that use FLT files.

Settings file used by E-on Vue, a program used to model 3D environments; contains a color filter curve that is generated using "keypoints" in a 2D grid; helps emphasize certain colors and filter out others when applied to a 3D scene material.
