Software Overview

TechSmith Snagit is a screen capture and screen recording program available for Windows and macOS. Technical writers, software developers, and others use Snagit to create annotated screenshots and video tutorials, for use in software documentation.

Snagit's Capture tool allows you to take a screenshot of or record your entire screen, a specific application window, or a custom region. When taking a screenshot, you can set a pre-capture time delay and add custom effects, such as a border or watermark. When recording a video, you can also record your webcam, microphone, and/or system audio. After creating a screenshot or recording, you can share the result with others via email, file transfer, or cloud storage services, including Dropbox and Google Drive.

If you need to edit a screen capture, you can do so using Snagit's Editor tool. The Editor allows you to crop, resize, and add effects and annotations to screenshots, before saving them in nearly any common image format. The tool's video editing features are much less robust, but you can trim or create .PNG stills from screen recordings before saving them as .GIF or .MP4 files.
