What is an SP1 file? An SP1 file is an identification file included in Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). Windows XP checks for an SP1 file to verify Service Pack 1 before installation. The Professional and Home editions of Service Pack 1 both use SP1 files, which have slightly different filenames.
