A GP5 file may also be a project file created by Sony's PlayStation 5 software development kit ( SDK ). It contains data used to package a PlayStation 5 (PS5) game development project into a .PKG file. Developers create GP5 files with GP5 Generator for PS5, also known as GP5 Editor.

More Information

To create games for the PlayStation 5, developers must apply for and receive a copy of the official PS5 SDK. This kit contains several proprietary development, publishing, and testing tools, including GP5 Generator for PS5.

Using GP5 Generator, a developer can create a GP5 file for a game development project. This file contains a record of all the files included in the project and those files' locations. When the developer uses the PS5 SDK to create a finalized game package, they must specify their project's GP5 file. The SDK's Package Generator uses this file to build the resulting game package.

NOTE: At times, developers refer to GP5 Editor as Prospero GP5 Editor. This is because the PS5's pre-release codename was Prospero.

How to open a GP5 file

GP5 files are not meant to be opened. Developers who have access to Sony's PlayStation 5 SDK can use the kit's Package Generator to load GP5 files and create resulting PKG files.
