Overview
What is a PHY file? 3D model file created by 3ds Max, a software package used for modeling and animation; defines how a 3D skin looks when matching a biped skeleton's movements; allows the biped's physique to capture motion properties such as bone rigidness, muscle bulging, and tendon stretching.
More Information The physique data stored in PHY files can be reused across multiple biped models.

PhyMod Physical Modeling Data

A PHYMOD file is a data file created by PhyMod, a now-discontinued program designed to physically model sound. It stores parameters and settings that define how electronic sounds are generated, modified, or processed within the software.
More Information
Dr. David Wessel and his team at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) at the University of California, Berkeley, developed PhyMod in the early 1990s. They designed it for physical modeling synthesis, a technique that simulates the physical properties of musical instruments to generate realistic sounds. PhyMod allowed users to create and manipulate electronic sounds by modeling the physical characteristics of acoustic instruments and provided the PHYMOD format for storing information defining the sounds.
The development team discontinued PhyMod in the late 1990s because of the advancement of computer technology and the emergence of more user-friendly and powerful audio synthesis tools. These developments led to PhyMod's decline in popularity and eventual discontinuation.
How to open a PHY file
You can open PHY files with PhyMod in Windows. However, the software is no longer developed.
